Green Building
Our mission is to build in an
environmentally responsible manner. By remodeling, as opposed to
building new homes, we are already doing a lot to conserve resources.
It is ultimately up to each customer to pick out their preferred
materials, within the confines of their tastes and budget. But we do
strongly encourage customers to join us in our goal to be
ecologically minded.
Energy Efficiency
In a remodeling project, we often have
the chance to upgrade windows, doors, and insulation. We recommend
making the investment in high quality doors and windows. At the
minimum, we comply with local building codes, including in those
communities who have adopted the more strict guidelines of the
Stretch Code. We also offer many insulation options beyond
fiberglass, such as cotton, blown-cellulose, and spray foam. While
more expensive, super-insulating your home can be a great energy
saver.
Sustainable Materials
We make every effort to shop locally,
and buy sustainably manufactured materials. We try to keep customers
informed of “Green” options when picking out materials. Many of
our customers have been pleased to choose a bamboo floor instead of
maple, for example, or to choose tile from a local store rather than
getting it slightly cheaper at a big box store. While staying
respectful of our customer's budget, we do feel that it is often
worth the extra expense to build with environmental integrity.
